Two Fundraisers Announced
Drew's Story Drew Clayborn, a 15 year old sophomore at Walled Lake Central High School, was attempting a back-flip when he fell and suffered a spinal cord injury that has left him paralyzed. This beloved and talented athlete and musician is going through intensive rehab at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI to regain as much movement as possible while adjusting to the realities of his injury. Continuous visitors, cards and photos have fueled Drew’s positive attitude and determination. “There are no words to describe the support we have received. The outpouring of love from this Viking community and our church has been the inspiration that is getting Drew through each day. These kids are amazing. I am proud to call Commerce and Walled Lake my home. I know my son will be able to run again one day with these kids,” said Drew’s father, LeDon Clayborn. Through rehab, Drew is learning new ways of dealing with the world. Despite his paralysis from the shoulders down, he can send emails and respond on Facebook (see Drew Clayborn Support Community). He has quickly mastered the use of a device called a sip and puff, which allows him to work his computer by mouth. Known for his infectious smile, energetic personality, and extraordinary athletic ability, Drew is an outstanding member of the Walled Lake Central High School marching band (tuba), basketball and football teams.
